Theres a car near me sporting some kind of faux leather type front end cover. I assume this is for stone chips right?
What does confuse me is that it also has 2 angled shapes sticking up on either side making it look more ridiculous.

What are these 2 sticky up pieces for?

I think you may be referring to a bonnet bra, and that's all i needed to know....a bit of Halfrauds modding apparently...dont know what they do or what the sticky up things are for.

But I do know they are sh*t

I remember them being very common in the southern USA but I've never seen one in the UK.

Not necessarily, they were offered by VW as an optinal extra with the MK4 Golf R32.

They are very polular on the VW scene. I'm neither here nor there about them TBH. If they are applied to the right type of car, I think they look decent enough.

I think the sticky up bits are for down force to stop the flappy bit from flapping and ruining the paintowrk on your £500 corsa

There was one on an old mustang I once had. Was there when I bought the car and because moisture gathers in it and never drys out the front of the bonnet was very rusty. Nasty things.

I thought they were to protect the screen around the bits in front of driver and passenger.

Bonnet bra, the two plastic bits that stick up are for aerodynamics....innit.

I have no clue, they look awful to me.

Can't shed any light on the sticky up bits, but will just add to the hatred for them here. They look worse than any amount of stone chips ever could, and as someone above said in this part of the world with our climate they just trap moisture causing rust. Horrible things generally used by idiots.

Nope biggrin I don't hate the look of them but it would be better suited as a niche thing rather than ever tom dick and chavhead fitting them to their Saxo's and Corsa's.

I do have a MK4 golf based car though, a VW Bora...

They are to keep the front edge of your DUB bonnet stone chip free, so when you take it off to weigh the heap in the leading edge will still be mint. HATERS GONNA HATE.
