More clueless driving test interfering - discuss

I noticed this earlier:

Ignoring the fact that its yet another "ditzy cow who obviously cant drive crashes car, now thinks everyone should suffer with more testing" story, is this a good or bad idea? I am in 2 minds:
Good idea: people get experience in how easy it is to crash, and therefore may drive more safely, without having a crash IRL
Bad idea: why is it needed? Only drive as fast as you can see to stop! And life is nothing like what looks to be a very poor computer simulation (judging from the screenshot)

Better idea - ignore the Daily Malice?
its not so much the daily mail ditzy driver sob story I was concentrating on, more the fact that this scheme has been rolled out and is evidently gaining ground round the country. FFS my test 3 years ago seemed perfectly fair as it was. Perhaps if people used some common sense for once and though "i'm not terribly confident, so i'll have a few more lessons" instead of "i'm not terribly confident, but I'll go out anyway and become an enormous hazard", then we wouldnt be in this situaitonWhatever rubbish simulator they have is going to be nothing in comparison to the multi million pound stuff that people play online every day.
New drivers know what happens when they crash, if they havent been playing games there are many youtube videos that they are probably aware of.
Training is not the biggest issue in young road deaths.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Has anyone had a look at the software?
Apparently the hazard perception test is not effective but maybe this is more like it?

This brain region gives an individual the capacity to exercise “good judgment” when presented with difficult life situations. Brain research indicating that brain development is not complete until near the age of 25, refers specifically to the development of the prefrontal cortex.
I read that the bit of ones brain that one would use to make this kind of decision isn't fully formed until the age of 25 so perhaps people who have just passed their test aren't best qualified to decide this?Edited by Horse Pop on Sunday 30th December 01:20
Hazard perception was a joke when I took it, you literally have to spot the hazard within half a second or you fail that clip...and when you look everywhere, there are an awful lot of hazards to see but only one is the correct one.
As for this test, if it was around when I was taking my test, then I would have laughed it off. No simulator in the world will ever replace the real action of sitting behind the wheel.

The waiting lists of 4+ months on practical tests are a bit of an issue regarding this.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
