OK ignoring the whole 'We should be champions cause we're Ferrari Vettel dared to overtake another car' attempt at stealing the F1 glory this year (after cheating team orders didn't work...)

I was told that Ferrari can/do pick and choose who buys their products.

WTF gives them the right to say 'you can't have one of OUR cars because you aren't good enough'?

Are Ferrari just coasting on their reputation, punching out over priced Fiats or do they actually produce any good usable cars?

I'll stick with Lamboaudi for the supercar thrills thanks...

It's their company, they can do whatever they want. Anyway, that's only on the more 'special' models unless I'm mistaken?

I guess its the same with shops, they don't have to sell you something if they don't want to.

That was just the Enzo which was a run of 399 (+1 for Popey).

And yes, the 458, the 599 and the new F12 look to be brilliant cars which raving reviews.

Also, how is legal team orders cheating?

IMO I wouldn't want to be told 'you can't have one' if I'd been working my arse off 24/7 for 30 years straight

OK team orders are 'legal', but telling the car infront to get out of the way is hardly raceing is it? I mean if you can't overtake a car identical to yours could be a big clue as to who is the better (champion quality) driver?

The right that any company has to do business with who it wants. Just because you have cash doesn't mean they'll sell it to you.

As for Ferrari, I would guess that previous owners get first crack at the new models that get released because demand is such that Ferrari can do that. And many businesses will put an existing customer above a new customer.

I'm just wondering why you are bothered? When are you going to buy a supercar?

they can pick and choose their customers because they have to, they have a very small supply of cars that are highly sought after, if they wish to sell direct to customers and maintain that direct sales relationship they can't just sell them first come first server, or they could easily all get snapped up by brokers who would artificially inflate the price

I thought the deal with the Enzo was they offered the opportunity to buy one only to their most loyal customers i.e. those who had purchased new Ferraris numerous times before, as a reward for their years (more like decades) of continual support of the marque. Seems eminently sensible to look after your best customers to me...

Occasionally at work I get the customer say 'I have the right to buy this...' and then add on something which they think will get them a better deal, to which I tell them they dont have a right to buy anything, even at full price. We can choose who we sell to and with a customer making so much fuss before they get a product, we dont want the amount of fuss they'll surely make after purchase, and ask them to leave.

So same as Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini then, limited number cars are offered to most loyal customers.

Look at it the correct way - what gives you the right to think you are entitled to buy one of their cars if you want it?

Why do you need to be able to afford it to have an opinion on it?

As for Ferrari, I don't think they are coasting, their latest cars have gotten good reviews but imo they don't tug the heartstrings like the Ferraris of the 80s and 90s. However, they do have so much interest in their limited edition runs that they can choose who they want to buy them. That is probably not so much as "We don't like the look of you, you aren't having one" as "you are a friend of the company and a known Ferrari enthusiast to you, would you like to be on the list to buy?" and they know that if the latter does not work, there will be someone else ready to fill the slot.

Though I agree with your point that if I had the money, I could buy 20 supercars and still want more before I entertained the idea of a Ferrari. They are just a company I feel little emotional connection, though I've driven a 360 and it was great fun.

Wasn't it the same story with the reventon?

Team orders in F1 - the clue is in the word 'team'. Have a gander at the racing rules of sailing dinghys as a team.

Is this an 'obvious troll' post or an 'obviously pissed and bored' post?

So we've got an Audi bashing thread, now a Ferrari bashing thread. Mods, perhaps you could set up a bashing thread for every marque, and people can bh and moan and make ill informed comments to their heart's content?

No current car listed. Previously owned diesel Fiesta, Citroen AX and Renault 5 Campus.

Did Luca Di Montezemelo steal your packed lunch?

This is a bit boring, lots of sensible responses. We need to get the Audi Basher thicko responses going. I'll start.

Erm. All Ferrari drivers are wkers right, because erm, my mates brothers boss owns one and he's a wker.

Also, they're really unreliable. My dads tennis coaches dog walkers brother had one in 1979, and the wipers stopped working.

And anyway, they're only bought by stupid poseurs who are trying to show off because I can't affor... err, because of image, or marketing, or summit.

Also, they're really hopeless. I want a car with seven seats and a roof rack, so anyone that buys a Ferrari is really stoopid.

Obigitory lol.

Full disclosure: I cannot afford a Ferrari so my opinions count for nothing!

But as has been said, it's totally up to Ferrari who they do and do not sell to. It's their company. They're in the enviable position of clearly having enough customers fighting a path to the gates of Maranello that they can actually turn away business. Congratulations to them!
