Good morning all, well stty morning for me.

Long story short, the OH stbox is on deaths door. I paid £350 for about a year ago and today it started coughing it's final breaths.

No one is going to want to buy it and I really cannot be fecked to break it and sell the parts, mainly because is a 1999 VW Bora 1.6 8v peice of turd! biggrin

So, I'm thinking of weighing it in. Does anyone know how much I might be able to get for it? Kerb weight is 1275kg.

Cheers all! Oh, and happy new year!thumbup

I got £150 for a 1996 Golf GTI. I just shopped round the internet offer sites and the first guy on the phone within 5 minutes matched the highest quote. However, if you do it through the site, they have to pay a commission for the referral so the price tends to be slightly lower.

Go onto cartakeback and get a quote. They always seem to come up best for me and take it away hassle free.

Either this. Or put it on ebay, 10 day listing starting on a thursday, being entirely honest in the description and you might be surprised.

I recently scrapped my old shed, and the offers online were pretty good. Around £100, I think. However, having entered my contact details into the website not one of them ever got back to me. Ended up using a local scrappy after a week of hassle!

Interesting, up to £145 going through that site. I'd be happy with something like that.

I wonder if the price would be increased by going direct to the scrappy scratchchin

Definitely try this first, it's amazing what things go for on eBay. Plus, VW Bora is prime Polski export/breaking car. I'd not expect it to go for less than £200.

Always arse for every pair of trousers

You never know you might get a good price as there's bound to be something that still works on the car

If you can take it straight to a metal processing plant (not a breakers yard, next one up the food chain) you're looking at £150 per ton plus £25 per catalytic converter.

ebay it ! Then if that fails find a scrapyard local to you and take it in with the v5. Do it in mid Jan after the prices have gone up a bit.

I only managed to get £150 for my Omega v6 auto a few months back- not for lack of calling about either.

Hmmm... there's one fairly local to me that's in Cardiff I think.

Worth a phone call. Cheers!

There you go! If you're lucky to have one local then you're quids in! I got £180 for a Volkswagen Scirocco a few months ago that was missing all suspension components, all bolt on panels plus it's entire interior. I was delighted!

Ring local scrappys, prices vary quite a bit, a friend scrapped his Scenic, loads of miles, good body, cambelt snapped, engine shagged, some places offered peanuts, one recommended somewhere who gave him £250.

They'll normally give more if you can get it to them.

I delivered but it's a local well known breaker to me that would have picked it up for the same price (I'm in Scotland btw)]

I've used cartakeback previously but they weren't competitive this time

You say that, but some Lithuanians bought my old, similarly fked, Passat, for £420. The Eastern Europeans love this sort of thing. Is niiiice!
