What car upto 5k for Girlfriend
Discussion
Input and suggestions would be appreciated,
-Needs a fair bit of room for luggage but not an estate or 4x4
-Comfortable and happy for long distance drives
-The problem were having is a balance of performance and economy, so she wants something with a bit more poke
than the 03 Focus but wont cost a fortune on insurance and servicing
We were browsing, she likes this but is put off by the insurance group:

If I were you two, I would get a quote for that Saab if she likes it. Insurance groups obviously have SOME bearing but each car is different. I've had quotes for group 3 cars twice as much as group 12 cars.
It is all down to statistics on those cars for people your age, in your area with your driving history added to it.

That Saab is quite nice; tempted to look at it myself.
I have a 9-3 Aero at the moment and it's been relatively faultless for a 123,000 mile car; a few wear and tear items, but nothing major or mechanical has needed replacing/fixing in the 3 years I've had it. Comfy seats, fully loaded (most Aero's were; cabin looks better if you can find one with the Sat Nav option) brisk, decent economy (~30 around town) and decent insurance. I bought my '05 model 3 years ago for £5k so you should be able to find 2007/08 models for that kinda money now, although the face-lifted 9-3 seems to be holding value quite well. Or you can try finding one my age for ~£3k.
