Tax and address change...

My friend moved house in early November and didn't change the address on his V5, therefore his tax reminder has gone to his old flat and the occupant is denying all knowledge of receiving any post for him.

I have told him he can take his V5C, Insurance Documents and MOT to the Post Office and tax the vehicle & change the address there and then. He doesn't believe me and is in blind panic mode.

Am I right?

You can tax it in the PO with all your docs, no need for reminder note. However this won't change the address, this needs to be done by sending V5 in.

Ahh right ok. Well at least he can go and get it taxed. I just showed him your answer and for some reason he believes someone from the internet rather than someone he has known 14 years....

We've just had to do the same as we moved house earlier this month and the Tax was due by tomorrow. As said, just take your MOT certificate, Insurance certificate, and V5 to a post office and they'll do it there and then for you. They even sent the V5 off for us with the new details on it.

Just thought I would update...

I got a text today... "Hello mate, tax all done. I spoke to Ian and he told me all I had to do was take the V5, MOT and Ins Certificate in. It's all done. He told me as well that while I was there I might as well ask about changing address and they did that for me! Was well easy.".
