Hi guys,

The reserve has been exceeded, and it looks like the buy it now price has disappeared.
Is that normal?

There are two days to go, current bid is 4200, a lad from yorkshire just rang me to say he will appear on the 2nd (8 hours before the auction ends). If he does this and has the cash, can I sell it to him? Or do I have to sell it to the highest bidder? Should I make the yorkshire guy put in a bid?

Then an hour ago, a guy from sheffield is offering me 100 quid more than the yorkshire guy.

Why can't these guys just put a fking bid and wait?

What would you guys advise me to do?

Mod edit: no links to adverts please

I'd have thought putting "car is advertised elsewhere" may be the best thing to do, in case someone wants to turn up and give you the cash.

BIN prices always go once the reserve has been met (bit of a pita).
You can sell to whoever turns up with the cash and close the auction if it has more than 12 hours to run. This happens quite frequently.

Thank you redstu.

What happens if the highest bid is for example 4800 and with less than 12 hours to go, yorkshire lad turns up and hands me 5200?

Thanks!

PS: To the guy who pointed out that ebay is not a verb. Thank you so much.
I going to hoover my living room soon.
Infinitive verbs: to hoover, to xerox, to google, to ebay, feel free to velcro your stupid mouth shut smile
It, along with many others are called infinitive verbs

It's your car, you can do whatever you want. I would say the car is worth 5.5k. Another thing to remember is that most bids can come in the last 30 minutes of theauction eending, also I wouldn't listen to anyone that promises to come over and buy it

I agree with your overall point but I'm not sure that's right.

Hope all goes well, ebay can be a nightmare.

The advert sounds like the MOT ended 20th December. Do you mean it will end 20th December 2013?

I think it's generally accepted that it is now. This may be reflected in dictionaries before long. To Google is another example. Fortunately, language evolves.

+1, evolution is how language works.

Well you made the mistake of telling everyone you're leaving the country so you will get some idiots bidding and not paying.

As always when selling a car the first one to turn up, give you an acceptable amount of cash gets to drive the car away.

Ebay does throw up surprises. I sold a car to a bloke who didn't view prior to winning, turned up in the dark, refused a test drive and paid and left.

dont burn any bridges though. be polite to second highest bidder and offer the car if first person is a fail.

Thanks Wheedler.
I am amazed at the number of time wasters on ebay. Guys wanting to pay with personal cheques, western union, chocolate coins, etc.

I know full well that guys who promise to take a plane/train/automobile to buy the car can get cold feet and bottle it.

I heard something to that effect, but didn't understand it.

If they are exempt from the 12 hour rule, what rules do apply?
