Currently with the RAC and have been for ten years, £169.56 for 12 months for myself and the wife, apparently we have Roadside, Recovery, At home and Accident care, can I do better than this, we do very little mileage now.

Are the smaller companies like Green Flag worth considering ?

Green Flag aren't really as small as you think...

Worthwhile looking on all the websites, as there are different offers that might suit, like personal cover with Green Flag covers you and your missus to drive any car up to 16 years old (cars over 16 have to be the main vehicle on the policy)

I've just had Autonational Rescue out this afternoon. 45 min arrival time, very nice knowledgeable guy from a local garage (fair enough, it was only a flat battery - I didn't have access to a set of leads at the time)

I've used them three times in just under two years. Every time I've had good service. Reasonably priced too.

Have you called them out ??

If so you are stuffed with the RAC as you loose no call out discount

I have been with them for 15+ yrs luckily never called them out ,now have a discount which brings mine down to below £100 think it was £90 ?

Which covers me , wife and 2 daughters in any vehicle

I know that nothing comes for nothing, but... I have cover as part of my Bank Account with Lloyds. Not paid for breakdown cover in years. Not sure if its still available but must be worth a look?

Called RAC & said renewal was far higher than I expected & I was comfortable with, they dropped a lot without me really asking. Worth a phone call.

ADAC is German equivalent about 80 euros a year for Euro (inc UK) cover. Highly regarded. You'll probably get a Green Flag or similar turn up in the UK if you need to call.
They cover UK cars in UK, but not sure about Home Start etc.

HOW MUCH
i pay £80 a year for everything inc european coverage
i always get mine though my insurance company
more for peace of mind than anything else
but i did need it once, in france, where they recovered my vehicle to an independant repairer and put us up in a hotel for 3 days
i would never go direct to the AA or RAC or simular, its just too expensive that way

I used to be with the RAC response cover as I'm disabled. Price kept creeping up though so I stopped it. Always recieved amazing service. Thinking of joining them again as I get a good discount through the nhs. Quidco also do good cashback deals with both Aa and RAC.

Not sure if this link will work through the forum or even if im allowed to post this up here but the nhs link for rac cover is:

Er, yes.....

1967 Fiat 500, need I say more, but that has gone now.

Went with an upgrade to my current account with Natwest, provides Green Flag, family tavel insurance, mobile insurance (just spent 400 on a phone) and some other guff for 16 quid a month, the travel insurance alone is worth it if we make a couple of trips.

I have been with IC Breakdown who picked and transported my car a total of approx 300 miles on 3 separate occasions. They don't both repairing it (although they might if it's a dead battery or something straighforward, my HGF, snapped drive shaft and perforated coolant pipe din't come under this category), Cost was about £25 a year for everything but homestart and european cover. Arrval was always within the hour.

I changed last year to startrescue as IC had mysteriously put the price up for me wink Part of me was going to stay out of loyalty but then I thought, am I really doing them a favour here? I can't be making them a profit!

I haven't had to call out start rescue yet so I can't say how they are when called upon, weird since I now have a TVR...

I've been with the RAC for about five years now. Costs me around £80/year and my now ex-girlfriend is named on the policy. We don't have At Home though, as that really kicks the cost up.

I have called them out on average twice a year, usually for the E-type when I decide to take it for a long run.

Never had a problem with them, and am covered in any car that I'm in, whether it's mine or not.

Suggest you give them a call, and maybe remove some of the extras you have.

This. Its probably the only reason I keep an account with these shysters. I've used the AA cover several times, and it is personal cover for any car I or my wife are in.

I go through this nonsense every year. Get renewal through, go to the 'other' guys website, get a quote, call current guys, tell them I've been quoted better, receive discount, renew. smile

I moved my cover from the AA to QDos Rescue back in September - UK and European Homestart, Roadside and Recovery for just under £60 on a 5 year old Citroen. AA wanted nearly £150 just for UK cover.
