Oh dear. Just put a £500 deposit on a 1989 Mercedes 190e 2.6. Visit/pick it up on Friday (buying unseen but ad/condition and sellers reputation sold it!)

This one

Confidently go online, thinking of all those it only costs me £130, £200 postings in numerous threads... then get quotes ranging from £500 - £10,500... yikes

Never had much luck with getting classic/cherished car insurance online

Ring a broker like Footman James (0843 357 1973) or Diamond (Herts 01442 825 481)

Used both a lot over the years and would recomend either

Just hope you are over 21 - 25 and have another vehicle on a "normal" Policy - if you don't it then starts getting tricky

Classic car insurance only works if you have it as your 2nd car.

The idea is, that it will be less risk because it isn't your everyday hack smile

£500 doesn't sound like very much for car insurance on a Merseyside post code. How old are you?

Didn't say couldn't - just that it starts getting tricky - for me it's been close to 30 years since I was under 20 so I can't speak from recent experience

I have had luck with Lancaster - happy to insure as only car, unlimited mileage, commuting, and I even got Driving Other Cars last time.

Something strange there. I'm only £85 for a Saab 900 Turbo conv. It is limited to 4000 miles though and isn't a main car.

I've got the strange one of my main car being limited to a lower mileage than my classic, both with the same insurer

You are getting quotes on classic car policies aren't you, I know that internet can be a confusing place for people of your vintage wink

Carole nash is where I normally get my better quotes from, others are right to say phone for quotes though.

I've never had a worthwhile quote for a classic policy online, only by talking to recognised classic insurance brokers on the phone. For what it's worth I'm paying well under £200 for a tuned 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo for 5000 miles a year, agreed value.
