Hi All,

What is the best way to get stains out of cloth seats. In particular, nephew has just purchased a 2001 seat arosa and the front seats look s**t. They have water type stains on both the drivers and passengers front seats.

I recently attacked some nasty stains on cloth seats with my Vax. Came up as new smile

Vanish should work. I'd recommend doing the whole seat though or you'll end up with clean patches!

Upholstery cleaning foam spray type things are very affective if you haven't got access to a proper wet vac,
Failing that, A mobile valet or hand car wash shouldn't charge the earth to do it.

Stains, eh? hehe

Always found Autoglyms Interior Shampoo to be very good. Spray on, rub in and leave to soak for a few minutes if it's quite bad, then give it another quick spray and give it a bit of a scrub with a clean cloth.

As mentioned above, steam is the only way, I got a cheap hand held jobbie for around £35 mark, spot on for small areas. Then as suggested finish off with a carpet cleaning product, just remember to test it on an inconspicuous area first just in case.

I've just given up. I shampoo them about once a year and it all seems to come out.

I hired one of these http://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/rent-carpet-cleaner to clean my carpets. I had my butler clean the car when he'd finished the north wing of my mansion.

Valet Pro heavy duty carpet cleaner is my weapon of choice, it goes a long way as you dilute it yourself, works better and smells nicer than Autoglym interior shampoo. I've found the best way to use it is through a very fine misting trigger spray bottle, the gently work it into the seats/carpet with a small nail scrubbing brush, wipe it over with a micro fibre towel then usually hoover it with a wet & dry hoover, works a treat.

I think Elite car care and the likes stock it.

If using some of the above methode, will it not dampen the interior, so the windscreen starts to mist up?

How do you get all the moisture out afterwards?

It will dampen the interior yes. You can dry it out by putting the heater on full with the engine running and leave the windows open a gap. A couple of hours idling with the heaters on will do the job.

oh and ignore the idiot saying steam is the only way. He's chatting st.

When we bought our current house with brand new cream carpets we bought a carpet shampoo machine to keep them clean, IIRC it is a vax as well.

I can't remember the last time it got used because a can of Vanish power foam, a mop and the vacuum cleaner 30 mins latter produce vastly better results.

Obviously you can't use a mop in the car, but a good stiff (oh err... ) should produce similar results.

I would never ever buy a car with cloth seats for this very reason. 2 young kids, Labarador and usually lots of mud, leather all the way. I have noticed that a lot of modern cloth seats seem to stain easily with VAG being one of the worst, possibly because everything is always black, have you tried carpet foam and a nailbrush, let it dry out evenly or the stain will still show, once its clean Scotchgaurd it.
