I was thinking about buying a 25-35k barge and was doing the searches and used BMW 7ers seem very cheap compared to S Class Mercedes et al. Are these a steal?

£40k gets you a pre-registered, but also pre-facelift, 62 plate version.

£30k gets you a 2011 740d.

An 09 730d is £20k, even approved and with sensible miles.

Thanks. I think I'd find a 730d a bit low on performance, but a 740d could cut it..
Is there any reason the pre reg is so discounted?

High CO2 (180g/km) and the fact that it's an SE, not an M-Sport.

Over 160g means no tax write downs for business, so a new one (149g) is significantly cheaper for any business - ruling out the minicab, private chauffeur, and most company car fleets.

It's still cheap for what it is; just don't expect it to make big money when you're done.

I see the 62 plate is still for sale. How much off could I try for?

Great cars but remember they wont be worth anything when you come to sell them or a fraction of what you paid not that long after like any luxo-barge.

740d is the one I woud go for - apparently you can genuinely see over 40mpg on a run - insane for such a large car! And the new aluminium blocked twin-turbo inline 6 motor too. 300-odd brake and a stunning 600NM of torque... if you are living in the UK I can't imagine you needing more power to be honest. A truly time-warping mile muncher. Fitting non RFTs massively improves the ride too. Sport is nothing more than front and rear bodykit and wheels, direct drive is a must if you can find one equipped with it.

ETA: M-Sport has direct drive as standard

A 5 series is comparatively worth more and Will hold its money better. Must it be a 7 series??

What is "direct drive"?
