Rather unexpectedly come into some cash and rather than the standard routes of investment I was wondering if it is possible to spend £16k ish on something that will have little or no depreciation or, dare I say it, long term appreciation.

Initial thoughts are:

R26.R
Clio Phase 2 V6
Checked E30 M3's but over the last year they moved on already? At least 20k now for a decent one and besides, a hideously predictable suggestion.

Any other interesting things I could lock in the garage for weekend fun?

I hid mine in a Phase 2 Clio V6, but it'll probably stay there as I've fallen deeply in love, so beware

ETA Z3MC S54 is another

Z4MC is tempting, not sure a Z4M would be "special" enough. Guess I need to drive both.

Drive one, a good one, it really is special enough.

You cannot have more fun and lower running costs then a decent 7

The best car to hide 16K in is the boot of a series 3 XJ in a holdall along with a sawn off shotgun and possibly a dead body for good measure.

Best answer hehe

Is it really possible to buy a car for 'only' £16k and hope not to lose it in further depreciation? I know it is possible when you spunk 100s of 1000s on a car.

The honda NSX is where my money would go, having watched the prices steadily increase over the years.

This is probably a good shout, an Elise would work too.

TVR. Only going to get less.

But you would have to use it rarely.

But if it was my only decent car I'd just buy something I wanted to use, enjoy it and not worry about making a couple of grand.

A 964 Carrera 2 would be a depreciation proof option however keep in mind you could still spend a few k a year on maintenance.

I'd be tempted to say z3MC, probaly a bit cheaper, and they will definitely start to appreciate in value soon, i'd say they are most special than the z4's, seeing as you can get a standard coupe versions.

A 911sc or 3.2 Carrera would probably appreciate. You won't get the best for £16k but will get something tidy if you take care.
