Hello

I am very tempted to buy a car I have seen an S reg alfa 156 2.5 V6 no tax or mot but seems in decent nick 135k all electrics seem to work judging by the add just needs a bit of tidying up really.

Also has a full leather interior how much would this car be worth all sorted as tempted to buy it to try and pocket a bit of cash...

Going to look at it this tomorrow morning what should I look out for?

Also does the suspension looks a bit fked on the photo is they any way I could tell at all?

My feeling is even if its fked I could sell the parts and scrap it and easily get £250 back as I can get the wheels refurbed for free...

I rang the seller and apparently it was last MOT'd in December and is a px he cannot be bothered with I do know a friendly MOT tester so can get the car booked in so I can drive it back home if I like it as the station is only a mile from my house

If you've got £250 spare it would be rude not to

They go for silly money with tax and test so don't expect to make a fortune. Picked up a GTV for the missus last year with full MOT 7 months tax, new tyres, brakes and rear bushes for £650, it even had 50 quids worth of fuel in it.

I would assume, as a given, that it needs a lot of suspension work for the m.o.t, they always do!

You see early 156s like this trade hands for peanuts, even the ones with full tickets. I'm a bit unsure of exactly what opportunity the car would present to you.

Really hard to say. if you get a good one, anything with a busso V6 in is a tremendous experience, and they can be very reliable. Get the wrong one and its just a constant headache. I had a 166 with a 2.5 and manual box, and loved every single moment of that car.

I sold my 156 SW 2.4JTD with no tax and test for £200. It needed approx £800 of work, including various suspension bit, brake lines replacing, fuel lines replacing, airbag light on, two new tyres plus other small bits and bobs. Just go in with your eyes open as mine had leather, looked very tidy and only 98k (with receipts for much servicing and remedial work)

The year before i spent almost £1k keeping it on the road too. (tyres servicing, battery, pads and disks, upper wishbones, cv joints, rear shock absorbers, rear wiper motor)

I sold it to my neighbour and two weeks after getting back on the road he said the brake lights were failing - this meant a new stack at a price i didn't want to know the cost......

I do use a local garage for all work, so the prices i was paying werent too OTT.

The heavier engines ( V6 and I5) do have a tendancy to eat suspension components.....

In fairness it never let us down (except the battery....) was a joy to drive and looked fabulous.....

Go on, do it!

Ragazzon exhaust on and it'll sound fantastic.
I bought one for £1800 three years ago - a few hundred on the exhaust, £25 for a new boot lid (took off the ridiculous spoiler and sold that for £100 IIRC) then traded it in for £1,500 when I got my GTA

A year's motoring in a great car for £500

I would be buying the car to make a few quid not to drive it though you see unfortunantly

My feeling was the leather interior would be worth £100 and then the wheels maybe the same meaning I only had to get £50 elsewhere if it was not viable to repair. However spoken to my Dad and he is not too pleased at the thought of another car sat on the drive whilst I go back down south seeing as I already have one project on the go...

I may still go take a quick look anyway however as its not too far away the sound of that busso V6 may change my mind...

Buy it break it, sell the big bits make £500 easy then weigh the test in for close to what you paid for it. What's not to like?

Either that or bodge it through an mot as cheaply as you can & just drive it, they are fantastic cars IMHO.

It's seems, astonishingly, that you can pick up a good one for well under a grand. Don't think you can make money. Might mean that I'm in the market for one though!

Sounds like a winner to me,
The fact they are so cheap means a lot of people after 'cheap' second hand parts?
Nice cars and worth a punt if you can afford it

Got to be done, even if it goes *bang!* like my 2.0 did wink

Bulb-failure warning system (on back of rev counter) can fail, putting a small constant current through one of the bulbs = flat battery every 2 or 3 days. Replace - or pull the connector off the bulb when you park...
