New Fiat Panda 4x4
Discussion
We live in a rural area, and although 4x4 isn't an absolute must have it would certainly be a benefit at times.
Higher ground clearance is probably a bigger factor and a raised air filter after the last few weeks.
Only problem might be a long lead time as we need a new car fairly soon.

Suzuki Jimny written all over it! Higher ground clearance is probably a bigger factor and a raised air filter after the last few weeks.

If you do decide to go for one, I would advise you spend the extra £1k and buy the diesel, if fuel consumption is a priority.
An extra grand plus an extra 50p ish a gallon to get a few extra mpg don't always stack up, unless of course you just prefer the diesel engine. We had a 2005 petrol one and it was the best car ever, drove it to Italy and back several times, in heavy snow sometimes I wa the only car that kept going, ace in the Ligurian Alps, ace in Cornwall all year round and only sold it as we couldn't fit the children's paraphernalia and 2 dogs in all at the same time.
I would buy one of these new ones with the twin air in a heartbeat if I could.

£13,995!? I think Ridiculously expensive is a little over the top!
You must be joking, it's a supermini angled towards the budget end of the market. I don't see how repositioning the air intake and adding a few off-the-shelf Fiat bits justifies the price - obviously, it doesn't. What has happened is that it's achieved a cult status and Fiat are kings of exploiting this, so they've approached it in the same way as Audi do the A6 Allroad: it will always be a niche model and nowadays bought by richer folk in the country so the spec list is chucked at it as standard, replete with premium price tag and some interesting shades of can't-get-elsewhere brown and green metallic paint. It might not be cheap compared to a bog standard Panda, but I wouldn't have a bog standard super mini.
Suzuki Jimmy, just not a fan at all. Probably more capable but also more expensive to run.
I can get 50mpg driving normally in a 500 TA, higher if I try and be thirty and always over 40. I know the TA isn't as economical as the figures (what car is!) but its a brilliant little engine and I love using it.
Diesel is £1k more and doesn't have a 6 speed box. It would take a long time to make that back on fuel savings.
