Hello, I am looking to buy a 7 series with a budget of around 25k. Within budget are the SE models; whilst I prefer the M sport, within budget the SE offer more specification for the money. Further, the ones that I am looking at have optional alloys so they look better.

Can anybody give some input as to what options I should be looking at as must haves? If anybody knows the standard spec that would be good.

Any feedback on the car itself would be appreciated too.

Why do you prefer the M Sport? It's not a sporty car really so I would think the extra comfort of the SE model would be better, plus the extra spec you can then afford.

I have an E65 SE and very glad it's not the M sport TBH.

As ever, I would say the two best options are comfort seats in the front and dynamic drive. Lovely cars, SE should do you proud really, M-Sport is just a couple of aprons, sports seats, steering wheel and a few bits and bobs. There are a few around now for your budget, but finding one with both previously mentioned options should be a task! Good luck, and if you manage it you will be very happy.

Thanks guys; I agree the msport option may not be the wisest choice in car like this.

What are comfort seats and the dynamic drive?

Comfort seats are basically the most comfortable seats you will ever find in a car. They are awesome. Standard ones are excellent, which gives you some idea how good comfort ones are! Direct drive stiffens the rollbars when the car corners - makes a big difference to the drive. It's not a common option sadly, so you will be lucky to find it.

ETA: BMW Professional audio is a good option too, if you like music.

I saw a m sport model today; I was very underwhelmed, it looked nice but it was a poverty spec car. I didnt think much of the sports seats either.

Any thoughts on buying a 10 plate with 3 previous owners (one being the dealer itself- ex demo)?

You'd want a decent discount on that, because it will look like a LOT when you come to sell it and hence dent your residual. You want the money off NOW to make up for it.

The father in law has a highly specced one that I've driven extensively. We both feel that the best option is the HUD. Once you have it you'll never want to be without. Also electric boot is handy...

What kind of discount do you think I should be asking for on a 26k car?

Sorry but what is the HUD option?

Theres a few for sale on BMW AUC for £26-£27k, should easily get them for £25k mar. I was looking at one recently for £20950 and they came down to £18600!

(Didn't buy for another reason but an indicator of discount achievable through BMW network).

HUD - head-up display, a rather smart feature which projects speed and information onto the windscreen. Nice feature. But I still stick with Direct Drive being the best option if you can find it. If you drive 2 F01s back to back, one with and one without you will NOT want one without it. It makes that much difference, seriously.

There are probably some of the Olympic cars about now aren't there? Should be some good deals!

I've been looking at a few and have more questions;

What is the difference between a standard and a sports wheel?

Do all models come with the motorised boot lid?

What's the difference between the rear DVD players with the idrive and the one with the remote control?

How comfy are those comfort seats?

How does the television option work - I assume its terrestrial tv and does it work on the rear DVD screens?

I used to get about 38 long term average - closer to 45 on a run depending on right foot.

Same here, 38 average in my E65. Up to about 41 on a run at "outside lane" speeds.
