Hi,

Long time lurker on the forums and looking for some help to make my father aware of possible car choices.

Currently he has a 320d bmw but he has gone off it. It is an m sport so it is low down and it is getting uncomfortable for him to get in and out. The suspension is also quite harsh on normal driving.

He went to look at an X1 and quite likes it, easy enough to get in and out of it, liked how it drove etc. He had a sit in the normal 320 and he still found it uncomfortable to get in. So it would seem that 4x4 and crossover type vehicles are what we are looking for.

Basically looking at what alternatives there are to the X1. Main requirements are the usual things like reliabilty, safety, reasonably nice to look at. Cannot be much bigger in terms of length than the X1 due to limitations on the size of the garage. Current 320, according to a quick google, is about 4.6m long so no more than that. Diesel likely prefered but open to petrol.

Budget is anything up to what the current car is worth, probably 16-17K but by no means have to spend it all. Say about 7 years old max and mileage is not that important, would buy on condition.

So far have mentioned Juke, which he does not like. Fiat panda was laughed at, although I think he could be swayed if he actually had a go in one as I get the impression that they are good car.

Other than that I am kind of drawing a blank. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Skoda Yeti, you can get a lightly used top spec Elegance for that. Best crossover to drive for my money, relatively compact dimensions but still spacious, lots of kit, etc.

Mazda CX5.

ETA - just read the budget and I don't think CX5's are down to that yet so try a diesel CX7:
