Hey guys..

Ive been google bashing for a short while, but im struggling to find anywhere that i can purchase a locking pin for fuel nozzles from.

please let me illustrate..

i currently carry a small screwdriver in the car with me that i stick into the upper most of 3 holes near that little silver tab.

i then squeeze the handle and pull the tab back and then enjoy not having to hold onto the pump or have to pay any attention what-so-ever until its full.

anyone know where i can get a proper pin, or will i be forced to kill my beloved screwdriver and convert it into a more conveniently sized item?

for reference.. the screwdriver diameter is 2mm

I'm sure we've had this before - I think retailers that cater for the disabled was one of the sources.

Quite a few fire extinguishers have what you are looking for apparently. A lot of pumps have had the lock bit taken out of them though so that there is nothing for the pin to latch onto, I wedge keys int the handle of those ones.

I use my mobile phone on its side. However I do realise the risk that if someone rang me at the same time that the petrol station would explode.

I hold the handle - am I bad?

There's not much else useful you can do while it fills is there?

Meh, you have to keep hunting for them in the door pocket when you want it. One of these off of a fire extingusher goes onto your car keys

Me too. The sheer laziness of some people baffles me.

It was shown that it's letting go of the pump handle and then touching it again, static electric, is what causes the fires not mobile phones. I use a 2 inch diameter bar off my truck when I diesel up but that's for up to 300 litres worth, I don't bother when it comes to filling my car as it doesn't take that long.

Time was (a long time ago) when you could lock the pump in the 'on' position at a lot of petrol stations. This facility gradually died out.

I can only assume that this was for safety reasons.

Indeed. Yet another great feature of Land Rovers - completely removable filler caps.
(although it's a bit naughty and the supermarket and m'way services especially cut the pump if they see you doing it paperbag )
