Not looking to start a 'who buys new cars' thread - I sometimes do, I sometimes don't

But wondering what the longest someone has waited for a car...

My first Boxster in 2001 was 9 months from deposit to driving off the forecourt - but that was what the market was like then

Surprised to find there's already a 12 month wait for the new RR after a test drive last week...

But they were cars already available, my record is 13 years though (sort of) ... letter of intent in for the F-Type when the concept was first shown in 2000 - contacted by Jaguar in Aug last year based on that and deposit placed, but that's still about 20 months (assuming car available in May and I proceed - not sure at the mo now having see a couple on the road). But I suppose that doesn't really count...

4 months for a Fabia vRS eek

Then I had it for a couple of months and someone crashed into it and I was without it for another month while it got fixed.

The standard waiting time for a Trabant in the German Democratic Republic was 10 years.
I guess communism doesn't really count though, as you didn't pay for it, you just put your name on a very long list and eventually, your comrades built one for you.

Four months for an Audi Cabrio, then another three to get the new reg on March 1st!

There was a particular plate I wanted which required it not being 5 something, hence the extra wait.

I was absolutely gagging for it, first convertible and first brand new car. Longest seven months of my life! biggrin

My FIL ordered a Discovery in August, it was supposed to be delivered pre christmas and has now been put back to March.

Personally I think he should cancel the order.

In early 1997 I ordered a F355 Berlinetta in black with red buckets and Fiorano pack. I was told I would have to wait around 8 months, but was shocked to get a call from the dealer 12 months later to say that Ferrrari wouldn't build my car because of the production shift to 360. In effect I am still waiting.

Very good friend of mine had to wait 9 months for a 2.0 diesel Audi A6 estate. No tricky options, just a standard SE model. Wasn't too bad as the Lease company gave him a C Class merc to tool about while he waited.

They've used the deposit to pay outstanding bills, and are waiting for more deposits so they can pay the suppliers for the bits for your car. That's Lotus for you.

Did they offer you anything off a 360 or any other perk for the inconvenience?

I waited a month once. I'm an instant gratification kind of guy. Since then I have bought 7 new cars straight off the forecourt or where the dealer could trade a car that day, the latest car I have was 'found' in the dealer system and was shipped to my dealer in a couple of days.

With you on that biggrin . The Porsche was the only car that I have ever had to wait for, oh and a Discovery 3 that I waited a week for. I hate it when I go to Currys and I can't walk out with a cooker/fridge/vacuum cleaner the moment I've decided to buy it.
