I have a mk1 focus 03 1.8 tdi.

Did a 130 mile round trip today and used half a tank. To fill it costs roughly £65.

This feels quite bad?

Edit: What could be causes of this?

I work that out as just over 25mpg.

Either your car is borked or you drive like a nutter.

Not good then.

Sorry, I don't know enough about these engines. Suggest you book it in to a garage to investigate any obvious faults.

Yep this affected my MPG and when correct I noticed a 4-5 mpg difference to the gallon.

Thought i should say there is another problem.

It goes into like a limp mode sometimes and takes about 25 seconds to get to 60.

Quick turn off and back on fixes that however.

I used to average low 30's out of my 1.6 Zetec petrol mk1 Focus. They are not economical by any means. But they are nice to drive. That sounds very low though.

Mine is a diesel. I keep seeing numbers of 45+ online.

That's partly my point! Also, that I saw more than 25mpg from my 4.2 V8 on the way to work today!

Yours is fked mate that's all I can say, my very underpowered 1.4 petrol mk1 which usually averages 28-30mpg got me 47 on a long run, just over quarter of a tank to do 154 miles, I think it was.

How is the performance? any other symptoms?
Most of the faults I can imagine causing such poor economy would always be accompanied by other symptoms.

Just the limp mode after 30 mins of driving.

Gonna try run it till march when my insurance is up and i get my first years no claims.

Got given it for free so dont care about it much.

Possible reasons.

Air filter blocked.
Exhaust blocked.
Turbo leak.
MAF/engine sensor not working correctly.

Injector timing out.

A tank of V-Power and a good blast up the motor way might help clear it out.

Air filter - replaced
exhuast - doubt it changes mpg by 20?
turbo - hoses got replaced about 7000 miles ago

I'd suspect the EGR valve or injectors, personally.
