£35k to spend but needs to be 4WD
Discussion
Yes, another what car(s) thread!
Currently drive a Discovery 3 and it's been brilliant. Roomy, great offroad and ticks all the right boxes. Unfortunately it was stolen before Christmas and was found burnt out in a field.

However I now have the insurance settlement in my bank account (Admiral were brilliant, can't recommend them enough) and therefore the fun of new car shopping begins.
Budget is up to £35k (don't need to spend it all) and my first thought is to just get a Disco 4/Range Rover but would like to hear other suggestions. Main job of the car is to ferry children and drive to see parents who live in a place that gets a fair chuck of snow (hence 4WD being essential).

With the remaining £3k you can get the MTM remap to 702bhp; just an option

If you know me you'll know I'm a huge Land Rover fan, so I'll alway punt a vote to LR.Currently drive a Discovery 3 and it's been brilliant. Roomy, great offroad and ticks all the right boxes. Unfortunately it was stolen before Christmas and was found burnt out in a field.

That said, if you want something different and/or fun then there are some interesting vehicles about. These are all D3 sized:

If you are wanting some on road pace then you might find a Cayenne Turbo S interesting too.
RS4 avant with mud/snow tyres. Otherwise a discovery as they really are great cars.
If you consider something else you would need to consider the tyres as most proper 4x4's have all season tyres or mud rated tyres as standard, they will make the biggest difference getting where you need to go.
The only thing a discovery will give you is extra ground clearance.

Ran winter tyres on the Discovery (and the Range Rover before that) so that wouldn't be an issue. RS4/RS6 do sound interesting/nutty!briers said:

Clearance can be handy though, and related would be approach departure angles. Also lets not forget a D3 isn't just AWD either. It has advanced traction sytems that not only try and keep all 4 wheels in contract with the surface at all times (for stability and traction), but can also break and control individual wheels and on the fly lock or vari lock the centre and rear (optional) diffs. HDC and low range only enhance it's abilities should you really find yourself in bother.300bhp/ton said:

I hope you can turn that system off, to stop having to replace alloys all the time
