So what would you people choose for an occasional weekend bit of 'fun' ?

Budget is 5k..... But hey cheap is good.

I keep contemplating (beer math style) 205 GTI's , Classic Range Rovers etc. Just something nice to tuck in the garage to enjoy when the mood takes you.

It doesn't have to be fast / slow / sleek or sort after, just something to enjoy....

What would you choose ?

Gotta go for a TVR, you can pick up a good S series for £5k or a tidy Chimaera, guaranteed to make you smile if you buy wisely.
Shouldn't depreciate like some cars might.

Evo 5 or 6 GSR, weekend use will keep servicing and consumables cost down, good car for hooning and alot rarer sight than Impreza's.

Can't insure anything Jap and Turbo due to being 19.

If I could I'd have a S14a as a daily without a doubt. Has to be non jap turbo and non ///M otherwise it would have been an M3.

944 is also something which appeals to me.....

I had the same dilemma a couple of years ago. Got myself an Integra Type R DC2 and loved every minute. Cheap tyres (15"), cheap pads and discs, bullet proof and probably still worth close to what I paid for it (I got a low mileage rust free example which are hard to come by). £5k will get you a really good UK one.

Edit: Just read your 2nd post about not buying Jap because of insurance.....I understand not being able to insure an Evo etc, but I don't think a DC2 would be more than a 205 GTI?

Not a fan of 172/182 Clios. Besides on the French hot hatch front a 1.9 205 GTI must edge the character factor.

Also GTV doesn't really appeal to me, classic BMW's are on the radar like an old E34 even an E28 (wanted one for years)

Integra is an interesting proposition ....

350Z? It might be Jap but insurance on them is actually quite reasonable compared to comparable cars.
