Universal sign for give it some Revs ' Mr?

Hi all,
I'm a long time lurker and although I have been registered I've not made many posts.
Anyways,
Where I live there's a Zebra crossing (the one with the flashing orange lights and stripes on the road, sure that's a Zebra crossing?) and I've often witnesses some late teenage kids clinch a fist and then with their index finger kind of flick it fast from say a 6oClock to a 3oClock position as if to symbolise give it some revs please, and perhaps a wee boot up the road lol.
Have I missed something completely or is this common/ even making sense?
