Been with this company for years and each year it's the same scenario. Receive renewal quote 1 month before. This year it was £480.

Get a quote using their own website £280. Call them up and they say oh that's a difference then run it through for the web quote.

Is it sop for insurance companies to do this or is it just my insurer ?

Happens to me too.

When I call them they usually say that the web quote is for new customers and they can`t match it for me as an existing customer. They get quite close but can`t match.

They all do it.

You'd be surprised how many people don't care at all, and just let the renewal take place.

If you read the renewal letter, unless you notify them otherwise they will automatically carry on your policy with the price they sent you.

They do it because they can, and i imagine it works a lot or they wouldn't bother.

happens to me all the time, although this year my renewal came back cheaper than I could find anywhere else with comparison sites etc, even with the same company(admiral)

It's the way the industry works. They make no profit (or lose money) in year one and rely on people who let a renewal go through. That's life, it means insurance is cheaper for those of us that shop around smile
