What interesting car for about 2k?
Discussion
Need a car ASAP. It will be a temporary solution for about 3-4 months I think.
Needs to be reliable, comfortable, bike friendly (saloon OK if the boot is big enough) and not cost a fortune to run. Ideally 0 depreciation or at least very little.
For some strange reason I keep looking at SAAB's. You can get a lot of car for the money, the HOT versions could be interesting? Might struggle to sell it on though, which needs to be taken into account.

Mk.1 Octavia VRS - does that constitute interesting enough?
The hatch will swallow bikes no problem , and the estate is even more cavernous (but rarer). Will be reliable, even if you find a lightly fettled one, comfy, and shouldn't drop too much in value.
You will have to put up with looking like a taxi though........

If by interesting you mean sThe hatch will swallow bikes no problem , and the estate is even more cavernous (but rarer). Will be reliable, even if you find a lightly fettled one, comfy, and shouldn't drop too much in value.

t understeery barge yeah go for it! Its also the most un-reliable car i've ever owned. The alternator went last week, took a load of wiring and the fusebox with it. Over £500 bill. Ive owned French cars more reliable then this. Dislike.I'd go Mercedes W124 also.

What makes the W124 interesting then? I have to say they look really boring inside and out. Maybe just my opinion though.
Subaru would be great if it wasn't for insurance. Stupidly high premiums for what they are and compulsory tracker, etc.
Octavia vRS would be interesting. 1.8t 4x4 could be a good one too, although rare and mostly galactic mileages.

Are you really young, live in a s
t area or do you have a bad record?Mine was £400 fully comp with no aftermarket security stuff. Aged 30 when I bought it, not garaged and with mods declared.

No to all those, but all Subaru's I've tried to insure in the past have been crazy high and demand a tracker.

Have also been looking at the Forester, cheaper to insure and a better image for when it comes to re-sell.

Ouch! Other than consumables I've had no major expenses so far (touches wood), and the Weitec suspension (and remap) makes it a little better than norm - for the price I paid and for what it does, I can't really complain about mine!
Indeed I put over 100k on mine and it was faultless bar indicator relay (10quid). KW's and ramap and it's a bargain, I miss mine.Gruber said:

Mainly the certain knowledge (or the dawning realisation, if you're new to them) that you're driving the best car ever built. No self-respecting PHer should be without one in his "real world" fleet.
Modern cars are built to last 100k or 150k and you might get better if lucky, the W124 was built to last forever, as Gruber said a few miles in I realised I was driving something unlike anything I had ever driven before. I will not be without one again. They are like old houses - they will last forever with basic maintenance.
They are surprisingly honest in the steering feel/handling department as well, and easier to relax and drive on a day to day basis than modern cars (or so i've found). They are one of the best (full stop) cars ever put on sale, and if you buy sensible and don't embark on a "restoration" (I suspect I am about to as I need a W124 and love the spec of my old 300E) they can be the cheapest motoring you can do - insurance on my 1991 was far less than a 1.0 yaris.
