Looking to embark on another roadrip in May , this one a tad different from some of the others i/we have done (mainly european) as its the honeymoon, missus suggested it, so a right result, had to make a bit of a compromise by having to agree to do it in her car with her doing 50% of the driving ,Were looking to eventually arrive at Bodrum Turkey, my only must is that we do the Transfargarran highway in Romania

We anticipate driving down to Villach (Austria) and taking the autorail from there to Edirne , and then driving south down to Bodrum, for a 10 days stay, on the way back were driving all the way back to Uk ...........any suggestions of must do's /stops on the way back

cheers F1pump

Worth pointing out that the Transfagarasan runs from north to south, really. If you're doing it on the way back, then on the mountain pass bit you'll be heading downwards for 90% of it.

Bled in Slovenia is worth a visit, it's practically next to Villach.

If you're taking a northerly route back, both Budapest and Prague are well worth a visit. And you might as well pass by the Nurburgring then as well while you're at it.

If you're staying South you can drive along the Croatian coast, head into Italy and go over the Stelvio pass.

Is your other half really up for this* ? As much as I love a roadtrip, I'd rather be lost in an orgy of sex/booze/rock and roll with my new bride in some sunny 5 star shag-nest, than slogging day after day across the bloody continent to see Transtopgearoverratedmountainroad.

*If she is, does she have a sister ?
Yes she does , but be assurred you really wouldn't want to go there ,

And yes the OH is well up for it , just to put you in the picture a little , we are in our late 50's so the above, whilst quite appealing to me , might apply if the OH was a young 18 eyar old Thai bride ,and whilst my mind might be up for it lick, i really dont think body would cope in all honestyeek

We already do the normal (flying) 2 weeks in the sun bit , but we also are involved in Italian car clubs etc so do Lemans and Italian car meets european trips blah blah ,

just fancy going a bit farther a field this time , i used to reguarly drive to Iran back in the 70's but they were high speed very bad road trips especially through Bulgaria and Turkey , Yugoslavia was bliss and easy altho that too was governed and under the iron curtain in those days , one didn't want to hang around too long

Appears the roads are still quite pot holey out that way , hence the reason we will take the OH car , its still quite nippy but not such a hard ride as mine
