I sold my Focus ST (ST3 with all the boxes ticked) today, it wasn't being used much and it made sense to get rid but there a few things I know I'm going to miss.

I think my main issue is that I'm not selling to get something better, there hasn't been a protracted period of scouring the classifieds and playing top trumps with the stats section in EVO before heading to Youtube for more gratification - it's simple, sensible, sale of a car I like but that's surplus to requirements at the moment.

So back to the topic - things I got used to having that I'm going to miss:

  • Reversing camera - I never thought I'd get any use out of one of these but it's been very handy.
  • The 5-pot burble - some of it might have been synthetic but it was nice all the same.
  • Being able to find it in a busy car park - orange is a very useful colour for this smile
  • Keyless entry - I'm already trying to get into other cars without unlocking them.
There are others but I know none of these (or the ones mentioned above to be honest) are too exciting - I was just curious if others really miss a feature a previous car had or something about it that later replacements have never managed to do?

I know many of you are lucky enough to be a position to miss something like the thrill of an F40 now that you have a Veyron or regret not having the tyres gold-plated on your new car but the mundane little things on the white-goods vehicles can be just as missed - curry hook anyone?

So over to you.... (and probably an initial reply saying, "it's been done, repost")

USB input. Going back to CDs is a chore, lots of my music has never been near a CD frown

The bare-bones honesty of my first car....a Fiesta 1.3 Encore...it was a car, nothing more. I miss it, even though I have a M3 now (my dream car....within reason).

Having had a couple of coupes as my last 2 cars, I occasionally miss having a rear wiper.

The seating position in the MR2.
The uber comfy seats in the Infiniti, and the nice V6 noise
The noise of the Peter Maiden head in the race prepped Astra GTE. Oh, and the leda suspension. Hard ride, but like a go-kart.

The best feature on my old 5 series which could be easily fitted to any car is the heater that recirculates hot water round the engine into the cabin when the engine is off, keeps the car warm when your shopping, stuck in traffic ect, it's a brilliant idea! And if I could add one feature to the z4 this would be it!

Driving a 20 year old w124 merc there are two things I miss compared to modern cars I have owned: remote locking (sorry I know, I know, the whole key I the lock thing is annoying) and economy- some nod to 30mpg would be lovely.

Mercs have this too - can't believe I forgot. Amazing if you get to a client a bit ahead of time. So is a TV!

I miss USB input for my stereo. In my MR2 Turbo and my Impreza I had an Alpine iDA-X313 stereo fitted. Just plugged my iphone into it to stream music. Now my Audi A8 has a 6 disc changer, with the cartridge in the boot! Never gets used, suffice to say, despite the stereo being a cracker.

And whilst there are many things I love about the A8, the biggest miss is a manual gear shift. I was a on the fence about the Tiptronic shift at first. Now I see it is perfectly useable. Even down some of the most challenging B roads locally, it is smooth and fast. The thing I miss is the mechanical interaction. My MR2 Turbo had the most amazing gear shfit. Far superior to even the MX5 when it was warmed through. I miss going up and down the box with that short shift, blipping the throttle and double de-clutching my downshifts. The Audi is fast and effortless and the automatic box is a blessing in heavy traffic but I am most definitely a manual man.

The flames out of the Challenge exhaust on my old 348 on over-run. Even if it did set fire to the rear bumper once. Modern cars are so sensible now....

Stalk mounted, self parking windscreen wipers. A switch mounted on the passenger side of the dash + non self parking gets old very quickly.
