I reported a fairly deep pothole (Over 50mm deep, as over 40mm is repairable by their rules) to our council and credit to them they came out within 24hours to have a look. The 'surveyor' couldn't find the hole to start with even though it was fairly visible in the middle of the road.
He measured the depth with the pool of ice in it and said it was marginal whether to repair it, i said to him it will be deeper without the ice in place. rolleyes Anyway he got a bag of tarmac and pressed it in to the hole with the ice still in the bottom, i wonder how long that will last.....

If they have to repair it 3 or 4 times then they get paid those 3/4 times. If they get it right first time, they ultimately get less money.

That's how things work with councils.

Mad.

I used to be paid on a per call basis, money escalating as the number of calls went up. However if I had to go back on a re-visit that was unpaid.

Apparently another one council contractors do with more major work is phone in to say there is a water pipe/cable etc in the way. They can then charge a higher rate as they have to dig out by hand. Of course they will just use the digger anyway if there is even a pipe in the way. That's from a friends lodger that works for one of these contractors.
