Am thinking of going the extra chunk and just scraping into poverty spec Evoque land with an SD4 Pure with glass roof and 20" alloys. We're it not for the fact that I have reached that stage of having the full family set (wife 2 kids and a dog) I would be sorely tempted to get an older Vantage.

So...for £33k what else would be deemed a more sensible buy?

The Evoque is her indoors dream car given the choice.

You will get very mixed reviews on the Evoque around here, but to be honest they seam to be pretty decent cars! ould be worth looking at Audi Q3/5, Volvo XC-60 and the new Mazda CX-5 as you money may go further.

Meaning poverty spec in terms,of ai am just able to get on the bottom rung of the evoque ladder.

XC60-I could get a pretty decent discount on one through a contact in Volvo. Only prob is the Mrs doesn't get that excited about it.

Or you could get the Sportage KX-4 with all the bells and whistles and the 181bhp 2.0CRDI engine, and still get £6K change for a little something else.

Are you looking for new or second hand, as this is going to go the way of people suggest 20 yr old supercars

Is she going to clean it? I'm sure if you bought her a £15k CRV And a diamond necklace she would be just as likely to open her bumhole for your old bugga

Sportage KX4 was front runner. My thinking is the Evoque although more, will hold its value better?

With your budget I'd go for a Freelander HSE. Evoque will be just too small. Personally I wouldn't go for a FFRR at that price as it will probably be out of warranty and could prove expensive.

Not well up on Evoques - but assume (never a good idea i know biggrin) that the 20 inch wheels aren't the standard size. With that in mind id suggest testing one with the 20 inch wheels before purchase.

The thing ive noticed with Evoque road tests is that many of them praise the cars handling on the road to high heaven. Given that its high off the ground - i suspect thus that the rides (ahem) "a little on the firm side" in order to achieve good roadhodling. 20 inch wheels wouldn't help this at all.

As for alternatives - well its the dream car for the missus - so assuming she will be doing most of the driving in it - id see how shed get on with the Evoque first in terms of test drives.

The Range Rover suggested by someone else is a fabulous idea - but if herself has her heart set on the Evoque then she may not like the size of the Range Rover.

Apologies if im way off the mark
