I'm not in the UK at the moment, so am reading the news online.

I wondered whether [no pun intended] the Met Office's rare issuance of a 'red' warning for snow - meaning that non-essential travel should be avoided - would have any bearing on s3 RTA offences (any BiB?) and any bearing on apportionment of blame in an incident - for example, being hit by a grit-spreader (LoonR1, other insurance experts?).

Your insurance would be fine. No issues at all.

No idea on the plod related stuff.

It could be worse though. We've got a yellow snow warning. Not sure why as I've always avoided yellow snow for obvious reasons.

There is a red snow warning for only a small area in South Wales.

But that hasn't stopped the media making a huge fuss about it and focusing on the 'red warning', the weather forcast BBC breakfast was quite misleading this morning and made it sound like the whole country was expecting the blizzard of the century.

The majority of the country is on yellow/amber warning.

Eat yellow snow. It might be beer.

Don't you all realise its the end of the world? There's up to 5cm predicted in some areas. The country will be on its knees and we'll all die slowly of pneumonia or starvation.

PANIC!!!!!!!!!

It probably was beer a few hours earlier. It's been "filtered" since.

I'm in that small part of South Wales with the red warning and I think if everywhere was like this then it would be justified but not for places I've seen everywhere else!

Beautiful morning up here in SW Scottishland.

Fekkin Media is terrified it gets it wrong, so always goes with the worst case scenario.

Might need to pull on a T-shirt if I nip outside later...

I had some interesting but brief sideways action into work today (based in Swansea)
Outside of the city center it's pretty heavy.

My cynic filter must be working this morning I misread this post with the above mental correction.

Sage advice from Chris Bonnington, IIRC.

The red warning was probably justified but it's still no worse than we had it (twice) in January 2010.
I think only one train ran this morning and I've seen no buses and the only traffic braving it seemed to be the odd quad, 4x4s and Mitsubishi warriors - which i assume are 4x4s - so the roads clogged far more quickly as nobody tried that hard (for good reason).

That what i was thinking jan 2010 there was a little bit more, but the roads where very quiet as you said only cars on the roads where 4x4, quads and lorries oh and a sideways mx5. Im surprised that around me the gritters and ploughs didn't come out till way gone 11.
