A lad at work just passed his test and says he was taught that on a three lane section of road to use the middle and right lane only, his instructor told him the left lane is for lorries and slow moving vehicle's. Has anyone else been taught this? What hope have we got if this is now being told to learners.

That instructor needs a smack.

Always use the inside lane unless overtaking slow moving traffic, before returning to inside lane.

If true, we should find this instructor and go for a 5 mile drive in L1...

...having first tied his feet together and hitched the rope onto his rear tow-eye.

Sounds like a particularly st driving instructor, but due to the sheer number of the fly-by-night driving instructor operations going now, can't say I'm surprised in all.

My daughter insists it's the "fast" lane, when I corrected her she said her driving instructor told her it was the "fast" lane.

There have always been dodgy Driving Instructors! I observed one in the 1980's "demonstrating" a turn in the road.

She hit the kerb going forward AND in reverse. The road was so wide, you could almost do a u-turn to get round...

What if, as there often is, lorry after lorry after lorry 300-500 metres apart in the inside lane, surely rather than weave in out, in out, in out, you'd stay in the middle and cruise past = predictable, you don't get boxed in between lorries, safer, better for fuel, tyres etc. Also, if it pisses anyone off behind you they can still come past in the outside lane. There is nothing worse than some idiot (who no doubt thinks he's an ace driver) driving faster than everyone else, unpredictably weaving in and out of traffic going from outside to inside lanes and back again every few hundred yards...you see this often.

I had 3 diffeent instructors while learning, the first 2 were from well known companies and both told me the left hand lane was for lorries and slow stuff, middle lane for normal motorway driving and right hand lane for people who want to go quicker than middle lane and for over taking before pulling back into the middle lane, suppose thats far from right then?

I suggest using some common sense regarding gaps between vehicles and observing traffic conditions. If it's not possible to do so please hand in your licence wink
