What would you do? Or am I missing something?

Discuss, suggest. I have no preference yet.

Depends if you care about depreciation? I suspect you would lose less on a CSL and 996T than you would on a 1M.

Out of the 3 it would be the 996T for me, but that's just because I haven't ticked off the 911 box yet and want to see what all the fuss is about.

What do you want it for?

CSL if tracking and B road blast.

1M for every day usability.

996 for ballistic pace but oldest.

Is this going to be used as a dd, or for weekends/highdays/holidays?

Other than all being fairly fast they are totally and completely different cars and experiences.

If you really wanted a CSL you'd be looking at 996 GT3s.

Likewise if you really wanted a 996T, an E92 M3 might be a closer alternative.

Go and drive them, narrow down what you want a bit more, and perhaps it'll be easier to give some alternatives.

I am split between all of them at the moment, in fact I am sure I would like any one of them...however, one concern I have is the SMG box on the CSL. I have driven E46 M3 but only had a passenger ride in an SMG equipped car and it didn't feel great, jerky at best. To be clear, it was not a CSL, a regular M3.

To answer one question raised so far, 'what is it for?' well I am the sort who will drive a car everyday that no one else would (ok I would draw the line at a Caterham)!! Case in point, I ran a 22 year old Renault 5 GT Turbo as my company car for 2 years recently simply because I had one as a teen and loved the honest yet rewarding drive they offer so don't hold back.

GT3s...cars I have never driven, are they really that good?

Probably not wrong. The CS looks to be a choice purchase at the moment

Assuming a budget of £30-40k (1M's are £35K+ from what I can find) you are getting perilously close to early 997 Turbo money...

With due respect, the guy asked for which of the three posted cars would you choose.
Not a critique of his choices, or indeed his own opinions.
If you wanted a CSL you would be looking at a 996.GT3.

Evidently not, as that wasn't what was posted.

Op- before several thousand folk come and tell you what you really want to buy with your money, of these listed i would take the 996. Usable everyday, ridiculously fast, reasonably practical, shouldn't lose much in depreciation.

Vastly better than the turbo, IMO. Not as fast, but much more fun.

So you missed the "or am I missing something" bit of the original post, then? smile

Absolutely. But do you feel that the quoted poster actually knows which cars the OP SHOULD be looking at better than the OP himself. 'If you wanted a CSL, you would be looking at a 996.gt3'. Just a ridiculous statement.
Nothing more

The 1M is really special, but, it's gonna depreciate. It's held its value for a few years but they're not new anymore.
The 996T is on the verge of bottoming out. If anything, they will become more pleasing to the eye and the prices will increase.
The CSL is very special and there is no doubt will not depreciate a penny or be an appreciating asset.
So in monetary terms I reckon go CSL, cheapish to run, zero depreciation. Safest option.
996T, wild card, massive thrills but may like your wallet.
1M, very cheap to run, big thrills but unless you hang on to it for a long time you'll be hit.

I'd go for the 1M and keep it. Find a good one, nearly new, hardly used and cherish it like a new car. Screw depreciation.
