Hi

I'm long-time lurker, new to posting. However this question brought me to the forums for some fellow piston heads advice!

Me and my girlfriend currently run a very bog standard diesel golf, which we are looking to change later in the year as it will be relatively high mileage for its age. The original plan was to buy another, similar commuter car for her, and something fun for the weekend/occasional commuting/holiday road trips for me. However we've realised that running both cars is going to be pretty expensive for not much gain, and since we're getting married next year the budget has gone down somewhat!!

We're therefore looking to buy one car which would be pretty sensible for day to day driving but fun at a weekend - i.e. hot hatches. We've got about £16k to spend but this could be raised slightly for the right car. The car can't be too hardcore (e.g. the more hardcore Meganes) as my girlfriend will be using it most of the time; it also can't look too outrageous as she'll think it's a 'chav car' (e.g. Impreza). If possible, I'd like a reputable reliable make (helps me sell the car to the future mrs).

I've therefore come up with the BMW 135i coupe (300bhp in a 1 series!?!) or VW Scirocco (maybe an 'R' if I can afford it...). I don't like the hot versions of the Focus and Astra - too obviously kitted out for my liking, and feel a bit cheap inside. Any other thoughts greatly appreciated!

Less than £14k gets you this Griffith, tell your girlfriend it's the one with the smallest engine, therefore the easiest to drive. smile

how about this, defo not chavvy, plus in a couple of years you will sell it for what you paid for it. Small engine so easy to drive, but light weight so huge fun, and presence, also cheap to insure on a classic policy.

nice red sports car

Yeah, I'd go for this option. There's a nice Ferrari for sale under the name of MGF at the moment on ebay. It's only £1500, bargain.
