Octavia opinions and belt interval?

Looking at this - worth a look?

Main concerns are timing belt intervals to be honest, I imagine general reliability will be superb. Probably a better buy than the 2004 Mondeo I'm looking at which is £3,750?

I'm pretty sure it's just the diesels that have DMF, and I wouldn't touch one of those with a barge pole.
Anyway, I've been to view and drive the car, looks and goes well enough. The plus points seem to be-

- Low mileage
- Full Skoda history
- Awesome spec
- It's a foot shorter than a Mondeo so will open up a couple of extra parking bays to me
Advert says the timing belt has just been done. I think the interval is 80k miles, it certainly is on the turbocharged version in the VRS... unless it's 40k miles and ours has been done twice, of course. I just know it was due at 80k.

Snap!
My brother has had a 2.0FSI for almost a year now and is very happy with it.
It was overdue a timing belt change (previous lady owner probably didn't realise
) so he had that done along with waterpump and tensioner. Only other thing has been a new coil pack, not a big outlay really.
Good car.

I've got a 2.0FSI in a 4x4 Octavia, had it for 3 years and over 50k miles, its coming up to 125k in total - passed its MOT this week completely fine.
I got the belts changed (+pump and tensioners) at 80k, was the dealer's recommendation.
No major problems with the car at all, the FSI isn't the most refined petrol engine, but its not bad, get around 35mpg usually. I've read that the FSI is best on 98 petrol, but I've only ever put 95 in it and its been ok so far.
For what it is, I've been very pleased with it.
