Ladies and Gents,

I’m hoping to call on your collective genius to help me with a frustrating dilemma. I was on the receiving end of a drink driver’s slow reactions recently, which wrote off my S3 and has brought forward my plan to buy something more interesting before life dictates that I need to be sensible. I’ll only use it at weekends, so not fussed about economy and I don’t need to drag a family around so practicality also ranks low on the list. I have about £20k to spend, although I am prone to man maths so there is probably some stretch.

The spanner in the works is that I’m very tall – 6’7” – and in particular I have a ridiculously long back. I have always known that I need to avoid cars with sunroofs and anything deemed “cramped” in reviews, but I have started looking this weekend and was surprised to find that I don’t fit in a couple of cars that I have been told are “giant friendly”: Porsche 996 and M3.

So my question is this: Do suitably interesting (i.e. a combination of good looking, pleasantly noisy, quick and fun to drive) cars exist for the likes of me?

Probably worth mentioning that I’m not purposefully restricting myself to Germans!

Any ideas?

I'm 6'8" (powerfully built, of course) and drive a TVR Tuscan without any issues. Once in I've not got loads of room to leap around in but it's very comfy and I have done quite a few Euro trips in it with no issues comfort wise.

Less exotic but fun cars that work well for men if our stature are MINI's (much to everyones very predictable amusement), full size exec barges, (S class, A8, etc.), Big SUV's (FFRR, (not RRS as its tiny inside) Cayenne, GL etc. And another good one is the VXR8 which are huge inside and also a good steer.

GM tend to mount their seats low so something like a Corvette might do the job. No practical experience only being a shortass though.

TVR Griffith, prices increasing at present, car built around the MD at the time (who was around 6'6''), ideal for weekend use.

I'm six foot six and have plenty of headroom left in my Monaro, you could pick up a very good one and have change from 20k.

Loads of room in th Mustang's.

Lots to choose from.

Oh and as big fat Dave said, lots of room in the mini wink
It's common for shorter, balder men to develop projected body dismorphia when looking at their idols. wink

ps Camaro's are better, and not just for us big boys

M5's have pretty serious room inside or an Alpina B10 V8S.

dont rule out cars that are only a little bit too small as i know at least for a lot of japanese cars you can get lowered seat rails that might give you an extra inch or two head room...and if lowered seat rails are not available for the car you fancy i'm sure a local engineering company would be able to modify some or make some up for you.

How about looking into mounting the seat a couple of inches lower in whatever car you'd really like, either by modifying the standard item or fitting an aftermarket seat?

A different view (which may or may not work, depending on wants, needs, preferences, prejudices etc).
Focus ST for the day to day slog @ <10k (electronically fluffed would be a decent shout), plus something for the weekend with the residual.
I'm a head shorter than you but in 50:50 country, sit getting on bolt upright and still have decent clarity above future baldness. I'd be genuinely surprised if you don;t fit, unless equally upright.

Then some downright uncomfortable (or even kinky) dirty weekend.

Interesting. I'm going to measure how much headroom there is in my 1er tomorrow. Seat does go quite low!
