Hi all

Looking for some owner experience of real world mpg of the cars on my list before I go and break the bank and buy one. My driving is around 75% motorway, rest is A roads and town work. 3 cars on my shortlist are:

  • e60 530I
  • Volvo s60 2.5T
  • Saab 9-5 Hot Aero 2.3T
The BMW and Volvo are 03-06 vintage, the Saab 05-08.

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest the aero would average 28-30 mpg, depending in how fast you cruise

Volvo - manual 28mpg, auto 25
Saab - manual 26mpg, auto 27

The Saab is the only 4 pot there..

In the real world it may well be slightly better.

I have a slightly older 9-5 aero HOT (same engine tho' I think). I am getting 35mpg on a run (if I stick to 75mph), 30 mpg in everyday use (75% A roads, just trundling to work and back) and about 20mpg if I boot it.

The last tank was about 25mpg, but I did spend a large portion of it at 90 or so mph.

I'd assume 25mpg for all the above and if that doesn't make sense then avoid!

Interesting! I really need 28 combined for the finances to make sense in this case.

I have just sold my 2002 95 Aero - Auto

I generally averaged 22mpg, 80% motorway. Both my Girlfriend and I are both quite 'heavy' drivers if you get my drift.

If you are concerned about MPG, I would suggest that you buy a manual instead.

I cant comment on a e60 but I know have a e39 525i and that gets driven in the same fashion and that is averaging 27.2 on LPG which is supposed to be 10% worse than petrol, so I would expect that to be closer to 30mpg average

HTH
