Snow - Tyres, new car - overkill?!

So, for under 2% of the entire year this place goes into batst mental mode whereby people seem to feel the need to spend £thousands adapting. I mean new cars for a one week issue?!

I do understand the snow tyres as its now becoming each year and the need to work is vital but you would think the UK has become Siberia with all the carry on.

2% of the year? 7 days? That's a generous estimate for a lot of the country. I think last year my car (on summer tyres) was immobile for a grand total of 2 days due to snow. Until the cost in lost time is greater than the required investment, I'm certainly not going to start spending hundreds and hours in time faffing about with alternative cars/tyres, and I'm well equipped to do all of it myself.
