They are very similar TBH. Not a real difference but i've just joined the RAC as my mum and girlfriends family are with them and it was recommended. Haven't been using them for long but from what i've seen they are good.
Paying only £10 for a personal rather than vehicle with everything apart from going abroad and onward journey. Can't complain with that!

I would take a look at some of the 'premium' bank accounts where you pay £8 a month ish and you get break down cover, travel insurance, phone insurance and all kinds of other things. If you upgrade a joint account it doesn't cost any more and you both get break down cover etc. worth a look, most high street banks do it these days.

I had this, broke down on the motorway and rang them. 3 hours later they came out only to be told for the £9.99 a month i've paid for, for 3 years will only get me 1 and a half miles to the nearest garage/service station. Would rather pay the extra for a proper RAC cover.

Depends who you are with. Halifax Ultimate Reward Account gives you AA cover with home start. £10 a month gets me and my wife proper AA cover, plus multi trip world wide travel insurance.

Shop round though....you might get something better....

with 2 bikes and a car my best bet is RAC - if i were to throw the bike down the road RAC will recover it, AA wont.

First Direct breakdown insurance will tow you up to 10 miles, or get you to a destination of your choice on mainland UK.

I paid around 80 euros for their ADAC Plus package which gives me full breakdown cover across Europe, Canada and the USA. It comes with pretty much everything including repatriation by air ambulance in the event of a medical emergency.

There is an english language section on their website that provides details of all their packages.

GEMS - £90 for both wife and I in any of the cars.

Seems a good deal, not used them yet though..

Avoid first call GB. Left me 800 pound out of pocket refusing to tow me home offering a hotel for 2 nights and towing to the nearest Toyota garage, ad it was a bank holiday. I had a plane to catch, so paid train to station and 600 to tow the car home then a hire car on return to UK.

Always found AA mechanics to be spot on and helpful. Currently with RAC as AA renewal price hiked up after only one call out in 3yrs. Green Flag and services offered by banks which use local garages I'm not keen on. Get a duff local garage coming out could cost you dear. My sister had a bad experience where she ended up having to call an auto electrician out after one of these mechanics made original problem worse. Its a bit like a garage lottery depending where you break down! Whereas I feel going with a bigger company the mechanics may be trained to the same standard.
