They are pronouncing it "dacha". Was this always the case or do they think that top gear have influenced the uk market so much with their "good news the new" "daseea" made them change it?

Saw the advert tonight and thought the same. I thought it was day-see-ya.

Loosely related - saw my first Duster OTR today - looked good, I thought.

I think they should have gone with Day-cee-a as it sounds a lot less Eastern European and therefore far more upscale then Da-Cha

That'll be a dealer demo, customer cars won't be around til around march.

I've been putting a few miles on ours smile

As for the name, Renault have said its 'datch-er' to us. It's their brand after all hehe

Nope, a continental car - Greek, in fact - unless that might have been a dealer demo?

having spent time in romania and hired one, it is indeed a da-chia. I think a certain popular motoring show is partially responsible for the day-see-a pronunciation

Doubtful, although we did have German registered cars a few months back.

Dealers have their RHD spec demos now which people have started noticing.

Saw the ad, nice idea.
Why the pronunciation debate?

Porsche or Porsché (for pronounciation's sakes) has been a debate since probably the inception of the brand. I always thought Day-see-a sounded much more "normal" to British folks as opposed to Dasha.

Interesting...

My partner is Croatian and I picked up the pronunciation on the advert as "DA-tsee-ah" as it would be pronounced in Croatian, if the C had an accent it would be DA-chee-ah"

Looking it up on wikipedia it seems Romanian has another pronunciation, somewhere between the "ts" and the hard "ch" - like the "t" in "texture"

Language is a funny thing...

I remember it being called a "day-see-a" in the 80's. Even by the people who mis-sold them.

And Ford.

You either pronounce it wrong or sound like a nob.

Mon-dee-ow

I watched a Motor Mundial episode (awful) where the voice over pronounced it properly, he sounded drunk
