The CAR Top 10 - Tenuous Motorsport Links
Discussion
I quite like these back page features in CAR each month - the latest is a top 10 cars with tenuous motorsport links - Clio Williams, Stilo Schumacher, Civic Jordan etc. What are the thoughts of the flip side to these? What is the opposite of tenuous anyway? I can think of the Makinen Evo, and then I'm struggling.
I saw an Integrale with the signature of presumably a rally driver on the back the other day, but couldn't work out who it would be, Markku Alen perhaps?

Sorry, I should have put the list up at the start, it is:
1) Renault Clio Williams
2) Fiat Stilo Schumacher
3) Honda Civic Jordan
4) Vauxhall Brabham Viva
5) Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel
6) Rover 200 BRM
7)Citreon C4 By Loeb
8) Mercedes A Class Hakkinen Edition
9) Porsche 924 Sebring '79
10) Pontiac Grand Prix
Did any racing drivers lend their name to a road car which they genuinely helped develop? We could have the Ford Mondeo Stewart Edition (if his autobiography is to be believed or the Honda NSX Senna if internet lore is to be believed (I have heard that in reality he didn't have much input).

- 4 - I think Jack Brabham did have a tuning business. He used to sell Triumph Heralds fitted with Climax engines, and I believe his tuning shop did develop the Viva mods.
- 6 - the Rover 200 BRM was fitted with engines tuned at Mike Spence's place when he was a works driver, but not at BRM in Bourne. Which proves the point of the thread.

My post is rubbish - the Rover had nothing to do with Mike Spence. I was thinking of the Elan BRM. And my hash key isn't working.- 6 - the Rover 200 BRM was fitted with engines tuned at Mike Spence's place when he was a works driver, but not at BRM in Bourne. Which proves the point of the thread.
OP - To go with your non tenuous link of Tommi Makkinen EVO VI
Subaru Impreza McRae
Subaru Impreza Terzo ( 3 constructors titles if memory serves )
Subaru Impreza Catalunya
Subaru Impreza RB5 ( Richard Burns and No 5 )
Subaru Impreza RB320
Subaru Impreza WR1 ( Petter Solberg )
Toyota Celica GT Four Sainz

I think Erick Carlsson was a development driver for SAAB so maybe one of the less tenuous.
As posted above, I believe the Jack Brabham Vivas were worked on at Brabham's garage.
Lotus did quite a lot with the Lotus Cortina and rather less with the mk2 Cortina Lotus
Lancia Thema 8.32 was very discreetly badged but could, legitimately have been sold as a Lancia Ferrari.
Conversely, Fiat Cinquecento Abarth was just a big front bumper and a leather steering wheel iirc.....
