Taxing a SORN car

Howdy folks,
I have recently purchased a BMW 5 series which has been SORN for the last two years.
If i put it back on the road tomorrow how long will the tax last till, will they tax it from effect of the 1st Jan? Not give me tax until next month? Give me 6 months and the remaining 9 days at an extra cost?

Tax it now and it will be backdated to 1st Jan. so you lose 21 days.
If you buy it and don't tax it, you need to declare SORN again - it does not transfer with change of owner.
The earliest you could get tax to start from 1st Feb would be two working days before 1st Feb as it is not currently taxed; (if it had been taxed, you can do it several weeks in advance). There is no provision to tax for any part of a month.
