A good friend who is not mechanical at all has the following?

2000 W plate 1.8 Freelander 3 door.

Full service history,

Will have 12months MOT

4 good tyres

Ok condition, not what I would call great.

Needs a rear prop on it.

She was going to PX it but I was thinking of making her an offer on it? Purely to tidy it up and re sell it.

What would your thoughts be,

We Buy Any Car say £525 but that is with a new prop on and obviouly classing it as in good condition.

Cheers

James

See what her p/x offer is.

If you can make a few quid after doing the prop then offer to match it.

If not, let it go smile

A dealer would probably need to budget in a potential warranty head gasket replacement in their offer!

I thought you could take the prop off and run them as FWD?

£4-500 sounds fair, as long as you can do the rear prop yourself it'll be worth it. smile

OP keep in mind the reason the props are removed on these is because the transfer box or rear diff is fked, I can't remember which but it cost a lot of money to pit right so most people made them FWD.

^This. They never 'need a propshaft', it's always because the IRD is dead and to have it done properly is about £1200 though if the viscous coupling as also screwed it will go again so you might need one of those too.

Righto, I was going to do a bit of googling to see if there was more of a common issue other than it needed a new prop.

So what is the consensus on it remaining FWD, how much is this going to effect resale?

Chances are she'll get offered a touch more than that within a deal. Warning lights blanked over it'll do it's money at the block.
