How come car drivers get pulled if they have loud sports exhausts, yet the kids on those horrible moped things with L plates can get away with making an insane racket.

I don't mind loud exhausts and live on a main road/ police & ambulance route, that doesn't bother me either. But these things are way louder! How can something so small and slow make so much noise? and how come they are legally sold this way?

Leave them alone!

think of it this way

its giving them experience on the road for when they pass their driving test and dont know how to use the road properly, exept they do because they have owned a scooter smile

so they dont crash into you or I.

Loud scooters are annoying. The noisethey make is not very pleasant, and 'cos they're so slow, they take ages to get out of ear shot. However, I've never known the police to pull anyone for a loud exhaust, and tbh, 16 year olds are going to find one way or another to be noisy.

Leave 'em to it as long as they're not doing anything dangerous imo.

Have you never been near a baby? At 50cc, or a large double in the pub, it's going to make some noise to make it move, it's screaming it's nuts off.

Because in general, the exhausts are 'E' stamped, so they comply with regulations.

we were all 16 once, some of us had scooters with suitably modified exhausts and some of us didnt, its been happening since 1921 when George Thrubblethwaite took to the streets on his Loxley Humblebucker without the silencers and Mrs Miggins said you could hear the noise all the way to Upper Chopsworthy.... and so it goes on....

The sound of a moped/scooter is just appaling, I actually find lawnmowers more appealing smile

Bloody pain it is too. Trying to restore a 1922 Loxley Humblebucker but it's a nightmare finding a silencer, because all the kids binned them. Even the rumours of there being a crate of them buried near the old factory in Lower Chopsworthy came to nought.

It's the ones who do laps of my village that annoy me.

You give them freedom to travel anywhere and they use it to stay within half a mile of home.

Such a waste.

It's not just the noise - it's the foul smell they produce that is just as obnoxious!

WHOA!

You "dont" like the smell of a stinkwheel?

You need to take a long hard look at yourself and ask how much of a petrol head are you.

I'm not sure swerving all over the road, racing each other 2 per lane, driving up curbs etc are really "skills" that you want a young car driver to have.

It's because they fit race exhausts that sound good at 13k rpm but the rest of the engine remains stock and only revs to 7k.

I used to like it when I were but a lad. I cannot work out whether it is the smell that has changed or whether it is me!
