Evening guys,

I originally wanted good mpg as a priority, then as much BHP as I could get whilst maintaining economy, was looking at 2.7 diesel V6's and the like. However due current workplace I now cover less than 10k miles a year and do loads of short journeys, so the good mpg has gone out the window, and the want of the diesel has gone out the window. I'm now after a big V6 or big V8 petrol with a touch of luxury.

Contenders so far

Jaguar S-type 3.0 v6 240bhp
Jaguar S-type 4.2 v8 400bhp supercharged
Jaguar XJ (not sure on different versions yet)

Please add to the list and explain why, luxury is a must, boyracer/chav image a definite no.

Thanks! biggrin

I would spend under £1k and get this. Reasons? You won't get a much more comfortable car, it sounds like it has a great history, and the spec and colour is lovely:

Spend half your budget on a superb Skoda Superb. Or get a newer, lower mileage one which is still well inside your budget.

Jagur sounds like a great call.

S-type is good, XJ is better. 6's and 8's both in your budget.

I picked this up for under £7k

Luxury V8 for under £5000, has to be an Audi A8 4.2L V8. It doesn't get much more luxurious at this price, and the engines a belter too, for a 2 tonne beast it can really shift, all in absolute comfort.

Lexus LS430? Most reliable car ever? If 5k's your budget you might not appreciate any huge bills from German manufacturers.

Or a bit different a Subaru Legacy 3.0 Spec R, it's not a v6 but a flat 6 and it's a beautifully built thing

That's was my thinking, although the looks certainly split opinion. (but then again I can't stand Jags...)

Slightly over budget, but I'm sure he'd take £5K

I think S8 too. Although they do seem to have chocolate gearboxes.

Seems to be a common complaint with bigger engined Audi's of a certain vintage.

This side of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley nobody does a better barge than the Jaguar XJ. Comfort and sportiness in the same, superbly reliable package.

Depends on how you drive, and how big you want it, although BMW have these engines in all body sizes smile
