Yes. Get some mates to help you lift it.

Once it's out of the car you can probably carry it with a few friends. I've carried an A-series engine and 'box around using a couple of ratchet straps and part of a bed frame to make a sling.

A skateboard is surprisingly useful for transporting engines on flat surfaces, too. smile

Depends on the engine.. small one wont be too much issue, bigger one will be a pain potentially

Yep, get some mates to help, I could just about manhandle a fiat 500 engine around but much bigger you are risking back and penis injuries*

  • Never, ever lift a 2.0 Pinto block onto a black and Decker workmate whilst wearing loose jogging bottoms and no undies is all I am saying.

Sling, long bit of 2x4, couple of pads/bean bags for shoulders, and at least one reasonably strong mate of simular height.

Open van doors, reverse towards shed, slam brakes on, fix engine. Job done.

Or slide engine down a plank fron the van, put on an old tyre and drag the tyre to the shed (a bin lid under the tyre helps skiddyness, and a rope around the tyre helps with pulling it).

2 thick planks of wood, some strong ratchet straps and a few people. That's how they do it in India, Thailand etc. when I've seen it on TV

Don't hold it by a pulley. I nearly lost a finger one time, lifting an engine by the crank pulley when my mate lifted the other end by the flywheel and spun it, jamming my finger. frown
yes heard of more than one person doing that.

Use heavy things in your house as free weights, get fully pumped up over the course of several months then just lift it out yourself like a real man.

Can you quickly split the 'box from the engine to make it a little lighter? can easily be put back together at 'tother end?

that or man up, i lifted a k-series 16v lump up from an engine bay, over slam panel on to floor, changed clutch and done the reverse, by my self, im not even terribly well built!
