I'm not talking about the much maligned horse riders jackets but a car!

Last night i was leaving a hospital car park (West Suffolk) and noticed a silver Mondeo Mk3 (Diesel ST) that was sticking out of its parking bay by about half a meter (prime target for a vista print "your parking sucks" card).

I pulled in front to exit the car park to see the front illuminate from the reflection of my lights with what i initially thought was reflective "POLICE" signs.

A quick double take and they actually looked exactly like the "POLICE" signs but it said "POLITE".

If i had a sharpy i would have stopped and written over it "C*NT".

I wonder how many people he has pulled up behind on the road and conned with this sign?

Its blurring the lines of legality surely?

Ah, sounds like the Mondeo Mondeo has replaced the Senator and T5 Volvo for those weird blokes (always men) who like to kid other motorists they are the Police, you know, white ca, Hi Viz on the back of the drivers seat.

Is that the Mondeo's proper name in taxonomical nomenclature?

Conned...What would you do if you where driving along and a silver Mondeo roared up behind you, you look in your mirror and in that split second see the words "police"????

Sharpy...Permanent marker.

I'd check I wasn't speeding then drive carefully. It's how I react to real police cars.

I assume this reaction is bad somehow?

Not really. Stuff is either legal or illegal, generally. This is legal because you're not impersonating a police officer. As others have pointed out in the past, having a car stickered up like HATO do, with the batten burg etc looks more like a police car, and yet it's not a problem, legally.

If you were to dress up as a policeman, and start pulling people over with a fake ID, then you'd have a problem. But you can put any stickers you want (pretty much) on your car. So you could go jam-sandwich batten burg, roof lights (so long as they don't light up blue), POLITE signs, high vis etc etc. and that's no problem.

IANAL. biggrin

It is utterly pathetic to see the old "Hi Viz on the parcel shelf" malarkey. I stand ready to be corrected however it's not the most natural place to stick your hi-viz for anything other than impersonating "authority"...

Not at all as thats what i would do. But maybe conned was a poor choice of words? Duped better?

I wonder if the Mondeo had blue LED washer nozzles as well smile

Do the police even put hi-viz jackets on the parcel shelf?

So you do not check your speed or drive carefully at all other time?

I try to, although I've got six points which proves I'm not as awesome at it as everyone else.
