I am looking for a set of performance tyres and stumbled upon these. They are said to be an improved FK452 but as with all things, real world experience is the best..
I need tyres for my Lotus Carlton and as the oe ones are not available,i am looking for a suitable option? Cost is indeed a factor as is Y speed rating and good grip.. Anyone got them and care to share their thoughts?

Hi,

I’ve just fitted them to my BMW Z4. I’ve only done one run in them so far, about 200 miles so they haven’t really bedded in properly yet, but they’re a lot quieter and more comfortable than the run flats I took off. They’re grippy too, really grippy. I was very impressed. Even in heavy snow on the motorway (not settling, but the road was certainly very wet) it felt well planted even at high speeds. Braking in the wet was impressive and it sticks round roundabouts very well. With the old tyres a slight push of the accelerator pushed the back end out, but I was stabbing the accelerator in the wet and couldn’t get the traction control light to come on even.

So far so good, I’m really impressed.

How strange, I was going to start a thread about the FK453 as I'm needing 4 new tyres for my BM.

I've currently got 452's [which have been great] but Camskill haven't got the sizes I need so I was wondering if the 453's would be pretty much the same?

got them on my R33 gtst skyline pushing 477bhp

i'd previously run through 3 or 4 sets of FK452's ...always liked them tbh - not a fantastic tyre but they lasted well for the power i'm running and stuck well on dry days. In the wet forget it but then big power at the rear wheels will do that really.

the FK453's do feel nicer to ride on - quieter and better in the wet but not by much. I had to switch them over to winter tyres recently

btw i got mine from oponeo.co.uk and they were MUCH cheaper than camskill and the like at the time! I had to phone to confirm them because i thought it was a scam site initially heh! I got my winter tyres for £75 a corner... 18" wheels!

Just had a quick look at oponeo.co.uk and they appear to be more expensive for the Falken's than Camskill on this occasion.

I did read that review but i thought there were not enough mile done on them yet as they are quite new?
Wet grip is not too important as the car is not a daily driver.. They need to look good on the car though... The oe tyres were a special build for the car but i suspect that tyre technology has moved on in the last 20 years?

They'll probably get the same love as everyone had for the 452.. Even though in the proper tests they were crap.

A brief look shows that they're still average at best.

I have them on my short list. I think you can still get Goodyear F1s but they're now ugly dual tread pattern tyres that just look wrong on an LC. The FK453 looks like a similar pattern to OE unlike the arrowhead 452. Be interesting to see how you get on. My LO's still on its original tyres!

Surely on the list of things that you take into account when picking a tyre, 'the tread pattern being ugly' is about 99th with performance at the top?

The 453's look very average indeed:

Let's just say that a greater authority on LC's than me discussed this with Lotus for sustained high speed running and they recommended a similar orthodox tread pattern if you could get it. An LC will never be a B road blaster or track day hero: it's a high speed executive saloon.

If its relevant, my experience with 452's has been very poor. They managed less than 4,000 miles before being completely worn out on my BMW Alpina B10 and 265/35 R18 rear tyres.

In the past Goodyear & Continentals have done around 10,000 miles.

Ah so it's not just me then... My car has F1's on the front with that v shape tread and i just dont like them on this car.. As said the car is for cruising but must have a bit of grip for braking etc. 8k miles wear is fine as that will take about 8 years to do!

They must be absolutely ancient GS-D3's then - the Eagle F1 Assymetric launched in 2007, and it's replacement the Assymetric 2, have conventional tread patterns.

Depends on the size if it's a good application or not.

Yes GS-D3's They were on the car when i got it and of course i need to replace them because of age if nothing else!
They are 265/40/17 and 235/45/17 Must have a look and see how old they are!
I changed the tyres on my Jensen a little while ago because they were Michelin MXV's... Grips a bit better now!

i've just got a set of 19" 453s to replace some 452s that had done over 20k. before that the car had bridgestone rfts. this is on an e91 330d family car.

i'm impressed to be honest, i've found them particularly good in the wet - the 3 huge grooves give great stability through deep standing water.

i would choose 453s over 452s, and i don't feel i'm missing out vs premium tyres like e.g continentals or pirellis (that i have fitted to my 911 and cooper s respectively)

Nokian are well regarded for winter tyres not sure if they are well regarded for other weather use.

Still cant believe they got away with calling the online shop that name.
