Hi all

Friend of mine has asked me to go and look at a new shape Corsa (think it is the "D" shape?) tomorrow with her. Anything in particular to watch out for on these?

I believe it is a 1.2 16v SXi. I can;t find any buyers guide etc, but a google suggests they are very fussy about having the correct oil levels, or there can be problems with the timing chains. Are the engines interference?

Anyone have anything else to watch out for?

Thanks

Waterpumps can fail so check if that's been replaced and there's a breather up top that can split.

Don't have much more experience with them other than that sorry.

My gf has a 1.0 corsa d, don't know about your engine but her car is pretty solid. Only weakness I've noticed is that the tracking gets knocked out really really easily so I'd check the tyres for uneven wear and have a good check of the way it tracks on the test drive.

Not sure if it affects the 1.2, but have seen many corsa D's with failed air on pumps, not cheap to replace either.

Yes, if the spotty teenager lad that is selling it tells you it can keep up with his mates type r up to 90mph, then do yourself a favour and walk away. It's just not worth the hassle.

Its from a dealer.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. Its on 30k so relatively few miles. Fingers crossed water/air con pumps shouldn't be exploding yet....?

Anyone else?

Sloppy gearbox is usually an easy adjustment or cheap replacement linkage.

I had a 58 plate 1.4 SXI from new as my first car. Kept it for two years before getting bored of the gutless and incredibly thirsty 90bhp engine.

Overall it was a nice car to own, handled well on the optional 17" alloys. Build quality and interior is good (compared to my mk5 Astra). Never had any mechanical or electrical problems with it. I do quite actually miss owning one as they are quite fun to drive.

As a first car I would recommend it; wouldn't personally touch the 1.0 version (dangerously under-powered imo). I've heard the 1.3cdti engines are the better alternative to propel the heavy Corsa.

An excuse to post a picture of her:

Ended up with a 1.4 Elegance from a different dealer, as opposed the 1.2 SXI we looked at first.
Really nice car as it happens.

Thanks for the advice all.
