Have always had a soft spot for these and a few years ago came close to buying a 6r4 international (for £25k!!), but sadly brought another Exige instead - now starting to think of getting a group b car - has to be an great investment! (or at least I tell my wife it will be)....

I'd watch from just under 5mins in:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlILzUw9TVo

then followed by this:

then if you haven't had enough:

Plus finally McRae enjoying himself (watch from 4 mins):

£25k? Ha. I can better that.

My mum was offered an ex- works ComputerVision liveried 6R4 - which she 'looked after' for a year or so - for a mere £15k.......

She wanted it, I wanted it but did my dad want it?

No. He couldn't understand why anyone would want to spend that amount of money on what he considered to be a bloody Metro with an engine in the wrong place!!!

So my mum didn't buy it & it went back to its original home.

A couple of years later the same car was sold for in excess of £40k!!

My dad wasn't the most popular of people for quite a while.

What a fool! OP, I have always loved these. To think that they were once flogged and thought of as near worthless.

£15k!!! enough to make a grown man weep - I went out in the porspective purchase and thought it was a great car, but the buyer told me it'd need a "spanner check every 100 miles" and that had the mrs running a mile - still wish i'd done the deal though.

Looking on youtube there's plenty of tempting footage - seems all of the modern rally stars love the car:

Look at that angle he gets on at 00:15. Modern rally cars are so dull and lacking in drama compared to these old monsters.

Amazing cars, next year is the 30th Anniversary. I got quite a few model ones due to them being my favourite car of all time.

The 6R4 was - is - a mental little car. Lots of power, not too much weight, a short wheelbase, much of the power to the rear wheels....

What more could you ask for?

Oh yeah. I know. A forest, some dirt tracks & a garage full of Group B rally cars.

Group B. Gone but never forgotten by those of us stupod enough to stand in the road in some far flung country or in the wilds of Northumberland or Wales or anywhere else on a dark, dreary November night....

Daft buggers? Hell yeah but rallying hasn't been the same since the demise of Group B.

There is one in the Imperial Palace car collection in Las Vegas (not sure where it will be atm as the building it's in is getting a total bare shell renovation) that I saw when I was there last year. It was used in rallying around Europe, then imported to America for use as a Pikes Peak car, where it competed for a few years, before being retired to the collection showroom. It still had the dust from Pikes peak on it when I saw it, along with the battle scars of many competition miles.

What cars, I love them.

When group B imploded they couldn't shift them. They were being punted at 11k.

I'm no expert on this, but my recollection from when they were current is that the power was split 50/50 front rear which made them buggers to handle, others had 60/40 or 70/30 I think????

back in the late 80's they where virtualy giving away the group B's and a mates uncle could have got an rs200 for 14k.
he bought a 1.8 sierra instead.

i wonder which is worth more now??

A quick google reveals it was a 35% front 65% rear power split. Must admit to thinking it was 40 front 60 rear.

Thanks
