Hi guys,

I've got a couple of folk coming today to see my girlfriend's car which we have up for sale.

My questions is, what happens if one of the buyers wants to buy it today for cash (about 5k)? When I've sold more expensive cars in the past I've alway insisted that they come to my bank with the money. I'm probably being overly cautious, but if we accept the cash and he drives off today in the car, I'm worried the cash could be counterfeit. Is there anything I can do today to check?

Alternatively, he could transfer the cash to my bank account. If he transfers the money and I see it appear in my account can there be any problems or do I definitely have the funds? The only other option is to ask them to come round during the week or next saturday when the banks are open.

Thanks in advance

If they're coming with cash just ask them to bring the withdrawal receipt from the bank plus some ID so you can check its them? Assuming the notes are all obviously used etc that'd do for me!

What about one of those pens they use in the shops to make sure notes aren't fake? Would take a while with £5K cash mind you. Buy a few pens and get the girlfriend on it too.

Insist on used notes..

Most fake cash I've seen have been new.

Take out 10 random notes and pop to the nearest pub or petrol station and ask them nicely if they will check them with there UV thing.

If they bank with the same bank as you they could call up and transfer, you could then call indepently to check the cash is clear and unable to be recalled.

Usual check on notes, hold up to light, id just randomly check a handful.

Other option is get them to bring ID with photo and address, driving licence etc. at least you then have the backup of a verified address if things are suspect.

You're supposed to race on Sunday, and then sell on Monday.

I wouldn't be offended to prove the cash came from my bank and I was who I said I was.

Thanks for advice guys!

Good news.... they bought the car, paid a deposit and are coming next saturday morning with cash that we will pay directly in to my bank.
