The most pointless optional extra ever offered by a manufacturer?

Heated steering wheel.

Nice in the winter for about five seconds and then it's just annoying.

+1 for heated steering wheel, also heated door mirrors and front parking sensors, i mean if you can't see the front of your car how are you safe to drive

I don't find either of those pointless.

I was thinking about this exact topic earlier today. Gotta be either the Lada Niva's optional snow-plow (though having said that, it could've come in pretty handy over the last few weeks...) or the Fiat 500L's coffee maker.

Dunno if they're optional extras, but foglights that come on when you turn or indicate. How very pointless, looks stupid too.

The notion that metallic paint should be an optional extra, then come resell time, "well sir no metallic paint means its worth not a lot"

I'd argue that having fog-lights at all is pretty pointless.

The overhead storage on our old Jeep Cherokee was lethal and caused much swearing and sore heads.

They are actually quite useful on unlit country roads

Is that an optional extra?

Do BMW offer a full M badge as an option?

I've never even heard of this - are these lights that come on when you put the indicators on?

Do they flash or just come on?
